The default setting for paper size is US Letter. You can decide to use a different paper size by clicking on the button next to the size you want.
◊ US Letter: 8 1/2 by 11 inches
◊ A4 Letter: 8 1/4 by 11 2/3 inches
◊ B5 Letter: 7 1/4 by 10 1/4 inches
◊ Memo: 3 9/10 by 5 4/5 inches
◊ US Legal or Special: This options specifies that you want to use either legal size paper, which is 8 1/2 by 14 inches, or that you want to use an odd size of paper, such as envelopes.
For envelopes, transparencies, thick paper, labels, and Memo size paper, use the straight paper path feature of the PLP.
• Orientation
This option controls the orientation of the print on the page. Verticle or “Portrait” orients the print upright on the page. Horizontal or “Landscape” orients the print sideways on the page.
• Reduce or Enlarge
The Reduce or Enlarge option reduces or enlarges the print on a page to the selected percentage of the original size. The preset option is 100 percent, meaning there is no reduction or enlargement. You can scale print to between 25 and 400 percent of its normal size, in 1% increments.
• Printer Effects
◊ Substitute Fonts
If the Substitute Fonts option is checked, the PLP will attempt to substitute a high-quality font when it can find one that closely matches the screen font. The PLP will make the following substitutions: Times for New York, Helvetica for Geneva, and Courier for Monaco.
◊ Smooth Screen Fonts
The Smooth Screen Fonts option is a “fine-tuning” feature that makes text generated from screen fonts look better. The PLP software will smooth the screen fonts to make them look more like high-quality fonts. This option will cause printing to take longer.
◊ Smooth Bitmaps
The Smooth Bitmaps option makes the graphics of some applications look better. If this option is checked, the PLP will smooth out bitmaps (such as MacPaint images). However, printing will also take longer.
